Maintaining Healthy Happy Hair
Healthy hair is happy hair, at times it is difficult to decide between hairs integrity and aesthetic appearance. Yes, a sad world we live in where we cant always have what we want at that very moment; indeed we love our golden highlight retouches (it's sinful!) BUT without proper upkeep of trims and professional products it can be near close to impossible to have healthy beautiful hair. We must first pay our respects to integrity, then comes beauty. If the attempt is to grow your hair, a trim is advised every 3-4 months if the goal is to be exceptionally long. Hair's upkeep calls for mandatory trims; hairs uncanny inability not to grow when split ends are present is both irritating and frustrating. Split ends occur when hair is stressed from heat tools or perhaps harsh dyes, or both, the splits will stunt the length and can gradually shorten your hair if not taken care of. Abrupt and sudden fatal dryness can be caused by medical issues or drastic change in diet, often sudden straw like appearance and lack of hair is a thyroid condition which should be consulted by physician. Again we all should strive to healthy hair, after comes beauty. Both can be achieved simultaneously, with a little skill and compliance healthy beautiful hair can be achieved.

Fun hair myths....fact or crap???? DUE PRAY TELL.
Many hair myths are out and about...are the allegations legit? Or complete and total false. The knowledge of basic cosmetology inhibits us to be able to make a more sophisticated guess to these allegations.
1. Hair shouldn’t be washed every day....yes and no, if ones scalp's sebaceous glands already are being overworked (result being oily), not much can be done unless consulted by a physician. A mild balancing shampoo works best to prevent oiliness. Excess washing does in fact damage, over shampooing can strip hair of natural oils and cause dryness and possible breakage. Ultimately if scalp is naturally oily, it will forever be oily regardless of being washed every day to every three days however solutions exist to tone down the excess oiliness.
2. If one shaves there head, hair will grow back thicker....the hair can only grow back healthier, if hair was naturally thicker to begin with BUT has gradually began to become damaged from hot tools or chemical damage then yes hair can appear thinner. Hacking your hair off will only make it healthier if not already, upon growing back.
3. Removing grey hair causes more grey to appear.....lets face the facts darlin, America and the world over is getting old. No matter how many greys you tear out, the result will not alter to have more grey hair. Good and rich hair color lines that have many pigments to penetrate into the hair to give more dimension and shine are the way to go folks!!! =)

Grocery Store Retail......An unfortunate fate.
The statement "grocery store retail" is contradicting in that of it self, if any of you well educated people have taken time to examine the fine print on the back of the retail products that states as follows; "Only guranteed when sold by a professional". This quote begs an obvious question.....why is retail being sold in grocery stores, next to Loreal and Suave; Loreal, a corporate traitor of our industry along with clairol for leading the box color industry to the top, perhaps if LoReal and Clairol would stop mass producing box color, cosmetologists would actually be able to do there job instead of correcting our clients mistakes?! A sacred item that we as cosmetologists take pride in selling to our clients is being slowley desicrated by the monster grocery stores! Stores claim to have recieved product from closing salons and not from distributors ect...if thats true, why are products available on Targets website?Im not claiming conspiracy, simply asking questions that need answers...anyone???

Student loans....defaults on the rise!
Has anyone noticed the bizarre sky rocketing of people receiving federal grants and being approved for student loans that are in infeasible pay off? Or perhaps being accepted into a school not being a hundred percent approved for a grant, upon the realization from the school that you have not in face been approved; following realization the “hit by a ton of bricks”, falls over you, and then panic. A resolution for this wretched issue is by eliminating the federal aid in cosmetology….when students in this industry graduate and are licensed and working in a salon, there isn’t a snow balls chance in hell a fraction of an inch will be taken out of the mass mountain that has now become your student loan. Here is more information in regards to this crisis, not only in cosmetology BUT the rest of education.

Sanitation
Sanitation is an important factor in this industry (cosmetology), this includes patron protection and disenfecting of implements and work area. Sanitation differs from your place of work, then, from where you went to school; schools want to enforce sanitation due to state laws and to make the biggest impact on the impressionable youth of this industry (cosmetology students). In my opinion.....salons want whats fast, easy and aesthetically pleasing. Here is a link with many a commentary on this topic, very informative if i dare say; http://cybercosmetology.blogspot.com/2006/06/sanitation.html

We have recently purchased hair product at, http://www.mcssl.com/store/rewired-hair/catalog/category/5097597...so very exited to see the marvelous styles we are so sure they will create; ALL SHOULD TRY =). Again (as im sure they are both highly aware) thank you Phil Stone and Joseph Kellner for your contribution to our industry, for not only raising our awareness for the negative yet unfortunate happenings of our industry, also for educating our cosmetologists to become better stylists, remarkable to have discovered you both.
